Overview
These fabulous clients joined our Excellence family following a chance meeting. After learning about our services and having struggled to achieve a successful outcome with their own appointed architect, they asked if we could step in & help bring their vision and project to life.
The old Victorian schoolhouse, which overlooks the Severn esotery, was a complex project with various build solutions combined.
The main level was completely gutted & extended to host a variety of gorgeous family living spaces:
- An impressive dual-level entrance was constructed, retaining part of the existing external walls, paying homage to the building’s heritage. Multiple glazing solutions installed to flood the space with light, warmth, and life. The entrances top level also contains a W.C/shower room, which leads into a contemporary studio suite, benefitting from its own garden access & stunning views across the bay.
- The main lounge area was enlarged by removing an internal wall & existing staircase. A new bespoke staircase was carefully positioned to maximise floorspace within the lounge and new loft conversion, also providing a sophisticated feature piece, which is in keeping with the properties age and grandness.
- Extending the lounge even further, the build included a sea facing, glazed terrace balcony, providing the perfect place for relaxing moments & alfresco entertaining. The floor to ceiling doors and windows provided this open plan living space with a stunning backdrop and open views. As an alternative and to add a more private and secluded outdoor living space, brand new French doors were also installed to give direct access to the property’s rear courtyard, meaning the property now benefits from three easily accessible outdoor spaces. A new modern kitchen crowned the lounge, featuring bespoke lighting, marble counter tops and antique brass accessories.
- The once old and cramped kitchen was completely removed, giving the perfect space to accommodate an invaluable home office.
The top floor, which once housed a small, single & unused loft room, was transformed by adding a single side dormer. By lowering the floor level and extending the lofts head height, we were able to create two spacious bedrooms, connected by a luxury interior design Jack and Jill bathroom. Carefully considered glazing and roof windows were included to maximise light and the feeling of overall space.
Externally a new lower-level garage was constructed to provide the property with much needed off-road parking and the driveway was levelled and modernised with sandstone-coloured chippings, to provide the home with a stylish and warm welcome. The properties existing stone wall was modified, allowing the inclusion of new stone steps, providing direct access the properties rear garden from the driveway.

Project Overview
Excellence Living took this project forward from the clients own Architect & Structural Engineer drawings. An Architect led approach does frequently result in homeowners facing multiple build challenges & frustrations, including the Architects design generally being significantly over budget.
We would always recommend engaging a Principal Contractor first and asking them to help guide you through the design process. This ensuring any design decisions are budget mindful and fit for purpose, when it comes to the actual build being executed.
For this project, we worked with our clients to help resolve many gaps within the structural detail, modify the design, where it did not meet their needs or vision and engaged our trusted trade and supplier network to create a bespoke project package, which met their desired project spend.
Our bespoke and personally developed Project Tracker helped our clients keep track of their project spend, which helped guide them with decision-making throughout their build.
